How old does my pet have to be to get spayed/neutered?
We will spay/neuter dogs and cats as young as 8 weeks as long as they weigh at least 2 pounds.

Is it safe to fix my dog/cat before 6 months?
Absolutely! You can find additional information for cat owners here, and some great information for both dog and cat owners here.

What's the oldest you will spay/neuter my dog/cat?
We will spay/neuter dogs and cats as old as 7 years. For 6 and 7 year olds, we do require pre-anesthetic bloodwork be done before scheduling a surgical appointment. You can get the bloodwork done at your regular vet, or you can do it at our clinic. The cost of doing bloodwork at our clinic is $115.

Can you fix my cat if she's in heat?
Yes, we can safely fix cats that are in heat.

Can you fix my dog if she's in heat?
No. Your dog's appointment will need to be scheduled at least 9 weeks from the last day of her heat.

Do you give out vouchers?
No, we do not give out vouchers, but we do participate in most voucher programs. Spay Maine is a great resource when looking for additional financial assistance. You can also call and speak with our office staff, who are happy to point you in the right direction.

Does my pet need to fast before surgery?
They do! Animals over 16 weeks of age should have nothing to eat after midnight the night of their appointment. If you pet is 16 weeks old or younger, they should be fed dinner like normal the night of their appointment and then should be given about 1 tablespoon of wet food at around 6am the morning of their appointment. All animals should have unlimited access to water until you leave to bring them to the clinic.

What time is drop-off/pick-up?
Drop-off for cats whose owners last names begin with the letters A-M is 7:45am, N-Z is 8:00am. Drop-off for dogs is at 8:15am. Pick-up for dogs is at 4:00pm and pick-up for cats is at 5:00pm. If you're attending one of our mobile clinics or using one of our transports, the drop-off and pick-up times will be different. Please refer to your confirmation e-mail, or call our office staff.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you do not give us at least 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we will keep the $10 deposit you paid at the time of scheduling and you will be required to pay a new deposit if you wish to reschedule. 

Do you fix rabbits/goats/elephants/etc.?
We only spay/neuter dogs and cats.

So which is it - spay or neuter?
If your pet is a girl - spay; if your pet is a boy - neuter.
